A Columbia Dentist Dishes Dental Facts That You Should Know About
Our Columbia dentist office is here to share the facts about dentistry. We believe that by taking the time to educate our patients and share tools and information with them, our patients are more equipped to make decisions about their oral health care. Educated patients are also able to help prevent cavities through regular, at-home preventative care. During consultations and exams, we discuss health concerns that our patients have and provide solutions. We often hear the same questions and misconceptions throughout our conversations. With that in mind, here are some facts that you need to know.
Each dentist may have a different opinion.
If you visit multiple dentists to discuss a challenge you are having, there is a good chance that you will hear several recommended solutions. This doesn't make one dentist wrong, but it does mean that each dentist has their own specialty and procedures that they like to perform because of how effective they think they are. For example, if you crack a tooth, a dentist may suggest using a dental crown to restore it. Another dentist may suggest a veneer or bonding procedure. All work well, so it's really up to you to decide which procedure you are comfortable with.
Dentistry can feel great.
No, that's not a typo. Thanks to modern dental techniques and sedation dentistry, we can ensure that all of our patients are both comfortable and relaxed while having dental work done. Whether you have dental anxiety and need oral sedation to relax or are having a major procedure and want pain medication, we can help. If you have any sort of dental anxiety let us know when you schedule your appointment so that we can make notes on your chart and incorporate sedation into your treatment plan. Our priority is for you to stay healthy and helping you to feel comfortable will make scheduling those dental appointments that much easier.
Restorations may need replacing.
If you have gotten a dental restoration in the past, you may need to replace it. Even the best dentist, cannot guarantee that your restoration will last forever. A dental crown, bridge, veneer or bonding procedure may eventually wear out just like your natural teeth do. This is due to what you eat, your habits and the fact that materials, however strong, erode over time. If you grind your teeth at night you, are especially at risk for having your restorations damaged. You can help to prevent this by wearing a night guard, brushing twice a day, flossing at least once a day, having your teeth cleaned regularly and eating a healthy diet.
A cosmetic dentist can treat health problems too.
A lot of people think that a Columbia dentist is only focused on the way that teeth look. The reality is that as a dentist, our first priority is your health, and our second priority is your appearance. With that in mind, we can help your teeth to stay healthy and treat them if they become infected. Whether your concern is health or appearance related – we can help.
We offer helpful dental information such as the fact that you need to floss before brushing for any real effect. The flossing releases food particles from between teeth that the brush cleans up.Helpful Dental InformationAt Columbia Advanced Dental Studio in Columbia, we work to customize your treatment to match your needs and schedule where possible.…
